Ian Katz

General Counsel & Principal

Ian acts as both a principal and general counsel.  He is a seasoned legal practitioner, having been practicing for more than 20 years.

Ian joined Redwood in 2013 after being a partner at the law firm of Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman.

Prior to Kasowitz, Ian was assistant general counsel to CIBC World Markets, the US investment banking and lending affiliates of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, a Toronto-based international bank.  In this role, he advised CIBC in many areas, including regulatory, commercial and bankruptcy litigation, and internal audit and investigation.

Ian began his legal career first as a federal judicial clerk, and then as Assistant District Attorney for the County of New York where he prosecuted both violent and non-violent crimes from 1996 to 2002.  He received a J.D. degree, with high honors, from George Washington University Law School in 1995, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Emory University in 1992.
